Nine Things
(What Does GOD Want?)

Not long ago I was meditating upon the true meaning of sacrificial living.  The Lord gave me a poem that I will post here, but after that, He gave me a lesson about nine things that He wants from His children.  Of course, being able to do these things depends upon a relationship with Christ wherein He is Lord and Savior of our lives.  Additionally, we must be led daily by the Holy Spirit.  I do not assume that this list is exhaustive—it is just those things about which He chose to deal with my spirit on that particular day.

God wants…

1} Undivided attention

Luke 10:40-42

But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me." And Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her."  NKJV

2} Moral purity and unwavering devotion to truth

John 2:16

And He said to those who sold doves, "Take these things away! Do not make My Father's house a house of merchandise!" NKJV

3} Disregard of personal gain

Matthew 10:39-42

He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.  He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.  He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.  NKJV

4} Equality and justice in our operation with others

Zechariah 8:16-17

These are the things you shall do:

Speak each man the truth to his neighbor;

Give judgment in your gates for truth, justice, and peace;

Let none of you think evil in your heart against your neighbor;

And do not love a false oath.

For all these are things that I hate, Says the LORD. NKJV

5} Authenticity of operation (spirit-body-mind working together in obedience to the Word of God)

Matthew 5:27-30

You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not commit adultery.'  But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.  NKJV

6} Eager listeners; slow speakers

James 1:19

So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; NKJV

7} Untarnished vessels—made so by usage

Isaiah 48:10

Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver;

I have tested you in the furnace of affliction. NKJV

8} Flexibility to God; staunchness against the world

2 Thessalonians 3:1-7

Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you, and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith. But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. And we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, both that you do and will do the things we command you. Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ.  But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us, for we were not disorderly among you; NKJV

9} Determination toward His will

Luke 9:62

But Jesus said to him, "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."  NKJV

2 Thessalonians 2:15

Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle. NKJV

(The Lord added this concerning these nine things:)

These will guard, guide, strengthen, and uphold.  There is no law above or against these.  Prosperity of spirit is found in following these.

Remember to add your own scriptures to the ones I have given here!

Don't you love learning more about the Word of God?

"Sacrifice"

I have surrendered all that holds me back from following my Lord--a captive of total peace and love–bound by a crimson cord.

Others seem to scoff at me; they think I've lost my way;

They know only sight and sense—ignoring light and day.

I'm shunned because I stand aloof from things that lead to shame.

The world imagines selfish plans; they bear no other's pain.

I have no desire for what they have, no longing for their voice;

I have set my course, I walk by faith, I have made the final choice.

I have lost my mind—my heart—my soul—they all belong to Him;

No turning back to what I was; I have found a precious gem.

It is not that I have no flesh, no fear, or even, foolish pride;

But now they find no listening ear—in Jesus I can hide.

Do not sorrow for my "sacrifice"—I see what you cannot see;

I have found the lover of my soul and He has all of me.
